In 2013, the California-Pacific Triennial was relaunched at the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA). Participating artists represented a cross-section of countries throughout the Pacific rim. OCMA chief curator Dan Cameron selected 32 artists from more than a dozen countries, including Japan, the Philippines, Mexico, Vietnam, Peru, Canada, and the U.S. Pure+Applied designed the accompanying book with the geographical focus in mind. The Pacific rim map spanning the book’s front and back cover is screen printed on Tyvek—a material we chose as a symbol of globalism and construction. The map motif is carried through the book’s interior, where we mapped the locations of select artists’ birthplaces and current practices. In a nod to book marginalia, the exterior margins of the book were used to display the artists’ names and the image captions.
