South Street Seaport Museum Reopening

In early 2012, Pure+Applied designed exterior and interior signage for the newly reopening South Street Seaport Museum in lower Manhattan. We used a cyan color inside the museum to clearly indicate wayfinding locations throughout the five-story building, and on the museum’s exterior to differentiate it from the surrounding buildings on Fulton Street. The entire wayfinding system was developed and implemented in four months despite tight budgetary constraints. In addition, to underscore the theme of the museum and its waterfront location, we developed a series of wave patterns for use in large texts and numerals, and background patterns for hallways and doors. Along with the museum’s signage, we created a graphic system for exhibition titles and content in the 14 galleries.
