Eye On Europe

PureandApplied_MoMA_EyeOnEurope_0020

Pure+Applied’s second of several books with the Museum of Modern Art’s Prints Department traces the development of artists’ print-making over the past 50 years in Europe. The book is arranged in thematic chapters and anchored by leading art figures such as Joseph Beuys, Richard Hamilton, Damien Hirst, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Bridget Riley, and Dieter Roth. One of the key design features is the inclusion of three removable artists’ prints tipped inside the book. We also designed a thorough chronology of the period and biographies of the artists and publishers. We used the slash/virgule—because of its relationship to numbering prints—as a prominent graphic mark throughout the book, including to indicate the start of each essay.
