Project Cities from the Sky: An Aerial Portrait of America
Client Princeton Architectural Press
Reassembled for this book, the images taken by the Fairchild Aerial Survey Company
between 1920 and 1950 are published together for the first time. The images, taken
from high above and from low-angle raking views, form a rarely-seen portrait of
the American landscape. We chose an oversize format to showcase the expansive yet
detailed aerial photos. We also used a typeface modeled on license plate lettering
for the display type because the photographs not only show the changes within American
cities, but also the history and development of the highway system in the U.S.
