Project Blow-up: Photography, Cinema and the Brain

Client Distributed Art Publishers

The author, Warren Neidich, discusses how culture “sculpts” the configuration
and reconfiguration of the architecture of the brain. It is this reconfigured
system of connections that ultimately leads to new ways of thinking that result
in the production of new forms of artwork. The design concept, echoing the
author’s premise for the book, is based on the idea of shifting. Paragraphs shift,
as does the title of the cover. These “shifts” make the reader more aware of
the text and the acts of seeing and reading, and, most importantly, are a visual
reminder that external stimuli (in this case text) carry on an ongoing
dialogue with the brain.
